Solid Hardwood Flooring
Solid Hardwood flooring is a popular choice because it is beautiful, durable, it’s warm and elegant. It can last for centuries as it is constructed of one piece of solid wood throughout. Solid Hardwood usually comes in strips between 1 1/2 and 2 inches wide, or planks between 4 and 8 inches wide. Strips and planks are generally 3/4 of an inch thick and can come prefinished or unfinished. Because it is solid wood throughout, solid wood needs to be glued nailed to a subfloor, i.e., wood or concrete.
Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Engineered Hardwood is essentially two layers: a thin sheet of solid wood (veneer) and a thicker core of high-density fibreboard or plywood below. It comes in strips or planks up to 12 inches wide and it is generally 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick. It has the look, feel and versatility of Solid Hardwood, but it can only be refinished once or twice. Also, it is less susceptible to warping than Solid Hardwood. Humidity, temperature and moisture will not affect it as nearly as Solid Hardwood.
Wood Flooring Types (Species)
- Oak: The most popular wood flooring. It is known for its warmth, character and variation.
- Maple: Popular wood that is lighter and can be a bit more difficult to stain than oak.
- Walnut: Rich and dark with its chocolate-grain and luxurious appearance.
- Hickory: Varied, complex and hard, and an ideal choice if you want to showcase intricate detail.
- Bamboo: One of the most durable flooring options on the market. A very unique look.
- Cork: A composite flooring made of bark that is pressed into planks and installed like other wood.
Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring is made up of three layers as noted below. It is a popular flooring choice, but it will swell if water gets to the Base Layer. It is not waterproof, but is generally not susceptible to temperature, moisture or humidity.
- Base Layer Core: A rigid, high-density fibreboard.
- Image Layer: A photorealistic image of wood, stone or tile. It is a printed material.
- Wear Layer: A transparent plasticate that guards against both fade and wearing.
Vinyl Plank/Vinyl Tile Flooring
One of the most popular flooring materials on the market today! It is a synthetic material that mimics the look and feel of just about anything. Luxury Vinyl Plank is an ideal option for durability, beauty, elegance, budget, etc. It is made of PVC (plastic) with new technology and may be the best dollar for dollar flooring material listed on this page! It contains multiple layers: Base Layer/Core. Design Layer. Wear Layer. Depending upon the flooring brand, there may be some sort of backing under the Base Layer.
Vinyl Sheet Flooring
Vinyl Sheet flooring is a single sheet of vinyl and probably the most inexpensive flooring material around. If budget is the most important element is a flooring project, Vinyl Sheet material may be the answer. Very seldom do we ever sell Vinyl Sheet flooring unless budget is the main consideration.
Tile Flooring
There are many different types of tiles and the differences we will discuss in length and show in our PCB Showroom or your home.
- Stone Tile Flooring: Types of Stone Tile include Marble, Granite and Sandstone.
- Ceramic Tile Flooring: Made of baked clay and is popular for it’s beauty and natural feel.
- Porcelain Tile Flooring: A type of Ceramic, but but is made from a more refined clay and baked at a higher temperature than Ceramic Tile.
- Cement Tile Flooring: Popular in Europe and gorgeous. They come in amazing patterns.

Carpet has been around for years and is available in many different materials displaying properties designed and produced for various flooring applications.
